4 Ways You and Your Car Can Give Something Back in Seattle

Have you ever considered how your new ride can enable you to give back to your community? Well, we have—and here are some of the ideas we came up with of how you and your car can contribute to the greater good around Seattle.

Meals on Wheels (Senior Services)

What You Can Do: As a volunteer for the Senior Services Meals on Wheels program, you will be helping older persons with limited mobility to get the nutrition they need by delivering meals right to their homes.

The Organization: Senior Services is a non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the gaps in assistance and care for seniors in the Seattle area.

Volunteer Transportation (Senior Services)

What You Can Do: Nope, this isn’t a duplication of number one! In addition to delivering meals, Senior Services volunteer drivers can also use their own vehicles to drive seniors to their medical, dental, eye, foot care and other essential appointments, on a one-on-one basis. The organization even has a “Behind the Wheel” blog where you can learn more.

Grocery Program (Lifelong)

What You Can Do: Volunteers with Lifelong’s grocery program deliver groceries to individuals living with chronic conditions such as HIV/AIDS in the Seattle area.

The Organization: Lifelong’s mission is to empower people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and/or other chronic conditions to lead healthier lives. Lifelong is a part of the Emergency Food Assistance Program.

Van Driver (Ronald McDonald House)

What You Can Do: Technically you won’t be using your own car, but you will still be using your driving know how to drive families staying at the Ronald McDonald House to local shopping centers, events and local attractions.

The Organization: Ronald McDonald House is a national charity that supports seriously ill children and their families, providing a “home-away-from-home” for families while children receive medical care.
